On View: September 9th – September 15th 2010

THIS Los Angeles Gallery presents Home Sweet Home, a group exhibition that explores the conventions and comfort of home in a traditional gallery setting.  The work exhibited is derived from the idea of “home” conjured in the mind of five young artists.  Based both in Los Angeles and New York, the artists featured will be Jon Cournoyer, Mike Gigliotti, Hannah Hooper, Vanessa Prager and Annie Thornton.  Through the use of the entire gallery space, these artists will bring a youthful, fresh and evocative spin on their personal notions of home.

Jon Cournoyer is a Los Angeles based artist, musician and documentary filmmaker.  In February of 2009, he curated the Rock Paper Scissor show at Robert Berman Gallery.  Most recently he and Darren Le Gallo presented the two-person exhibition, The Right Light, at the Robert Berman Gallery.  The show featured his cityscape paintings on paper as well as a live painting and video performance.  He is a founding member of the art-rock band The Nichemakers with Raymond Pettibon, and is currently shooting his first documentary film in the plains of South Dakota.

Mike Gigliotti is a New York based artist, who originally hails from Los Angeles.  Home Sweet Home will be his first showing in his hometown. Gigliotti takes his inspiration from his cultural surroundings, infusing his watercolor and ink drawings with skate culture, folk music, the United States Armed Forces, his friends and family.  Gigliotti frequently shows with the artist collective Still House in New York City, and recently designed textiles for a high-end clothing line based in New York.

Hannah Hooper is a Los Angeles based artist and musician, who has shown internationally.  Her work has been prominently featured as cover art for a variety of musicians and groups, including her own up and coming band GROUPLOVE.  Most notably her painting, Redondo Beach, was used for the Morning Benders album cover “the big echo.”

Vanessa Prager is a Los Angeles based painter who has shown her work throughout Los Angeles.  She recently showed her work alongside Kathy Grayson for the show, Hunting and Gaming, at Robert Berman Gallery in 2009.  Her ballpoint pen drawings on vintage music sheets were shown in her two part solo exhibition Love you Too at Soho House and Em & Co.  Currently Prager is preparing for upcoming shows in both Los Angeles and New York.

Annie Thornton is a Los Angeles based photographer originating from San Francisco.  Thornton uses photography as an anthropological study.  She employs traditional photography techniques to create unconventional portraiture.   Her work was published in Somethings With So Many Things edited by Austin Kennedy and Keren Weiss.
